WF study shows risks of smoking cessation drug Chantix

Smoking-cessation drug Chantix has a poor safety record that includes an increased risk of depression and suicidal behavior, according to a study published this week and co-authored by a Wake Forest Baptist researcher. The study conducted by Dr. Curt Furberg, professor of public health sciences at Wake Forest Baptist, found that 90 percent of all reported suicides related to smoking-cessation drugs since 1998 implicated Chantix even though it was on the market only four years during the 13-year period of the study.
