Switzerland Smoking on terraces during meal times should soon be banned in Geneva Will it be impossible to smoke on the terraces of Geneva cafés and restaurants at meal times? The Grand Council - the cantonal parliament - adopted a motion to this effect on Friday 31 October. It is therefore not a piece of legislation, but the State Councillor for Health, Pierre Maudet, has indicated that he will table one quickly. If this were the case, Geneva would become the first Swiss canton to adopt this measure. The ban on smoking in restaurants was adopted following a vote in 2009, and was the subject of a legal back-and-forth before coming into force for good. [Read more]
