TV tobacco ads to make a comeback of sorts

A change is coming to the world of advertising. In 1970, the then - President Richard Nixon enacted a law that banned the advertising of cigarettes on television and radio, with effect from January 2, 1971. The last trade of cigarettes that was was Virginia Slims that aired 1st of January during the program "The Tonight Show" at 11:59 pm. In June 2010, a new regulation would prohibit tobacco companies sponsoring sports, music and other cultural events.
