IN THE MONEY: British American Tobacco boss Nicandro Durante gets a 27% pay rise to earn £11.4m

The boss of the largest tobacco company in the world had a 37 per cent pay increase last year. Nicandro Durante, chief executive of British American Tobacco, was paid £11.4million in 2017 compared to £8.3million a year earlier. The Brazilian father of two joined in 2011 to become BAT’s first non-British boss. Since joining, his total pay has more than doubled. The cigar-smoking opera fan was paid a base salary of £1.24million in 2017, up from £1.19million in 2016. The rest of his package included £9.63million in bonuses.
