France bans smoking in parks, beaches and school surroundings

France is still struggling to get rid of the smoking habit, with a new health decree published on Saturday aimed at changing that. In the coming days, smoking will be banned in all French parks, sports stadiums, on beaches, at bus stops, around all schools, and anywhere children can gather in public places. In a country where smoking has been associated for decades with a romantic image in cinema and national identity, the government's anti-smoking campaigns have long met with resistance.
