Council uses CCTV to track down and fine person who dropped cigarette butt

A Derbyshire council used CCTV footage to trace a resident after they dropped a cigarette butt on a public footpath. In total, two Derbyshire residents have landed themselves in hot water after being spotted throwing a cigarette butt on the floor, prompting North East Derbyshire District Council to remind locals of its "zero-tolerance" policy on littering. One of the incidents took place on a public footpath in Killamarsh on December 9. The council's enforcement team identified the offender via CCTV and issued them with a £100 fixed penalty notice.
