Paying by card (or debit card) at a tobacconist is an almost impossible mission. This is what emerged from a survey by Altroconsumo that involved 100 businesses in 10 Italian cities (Milan, Padua, Rome, Bari, Cagliari, Naples, Bologna, Palermo, Turin and Genoa). For example, buying a €2 revenue stamp proved to be a challenge in about half of the cases. Among other things, in Milan a tobacconist would have asked for a commission to pay by card.
