Michigan smoking rates higher than national average - UpNorthLive.com

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Michigan is again on the list of states with the highest smoking rate in the country, according to the latest Gallup poll. The national average of people who smoke is 19.7 percent. According to the poll, 23.2 percent of people in Michigan smoke. To put that number in context, the state with the lowest smoking rate was Utah with 12.2 percent, while the state with the highest smoking rate was Kentucky with 30.2 percent followed closely behind by West Virginia with 29.9 percent. Nationally, the smoking rates have declined from 21.1 percent in 2008 to 19.7 percent this year, but the top ten states with the highest smoking rate have remained largely unchanged. The poll foun...
